The app was developed as a working prototype and makes use of Landmarks historical maps. Unfortunately the current license that we have is only for HE institutions in the UK. Plus we only used Edinburgh as a proof of concept.

Lovely app. A comment: is there some way of seeing the map full screen? With Youtube, there are on screen controls, but if you tap the screen they fade away, allowing you to see the whole of the movie. A similar feature with your app would allow you to see a bit more of the map onscreen.
It loads quite slowly. I suppose there is a lot of image data to transfer, but is there any way of making it refresh quicker?
Finally, on the “Use it” page on this website it says the licence is only for HE institutions…. sorry what are HE institutions?!

all great thoughts for a second version – yes full screen would be very cool.
it is also slower than we would like – this seems to be a characteristic of the map servers – they aren’t used to throwing data out to mobile devices using a 3G or lower network.

For what possible reason is this in a UK store only app? This is a great way to get tourists from around the world to walk around Edinburgh, and most of those don’t have a UK store account.
